Did you ever consider that maybe you should not laugh when others break wind? That thought has occurred to a lot of people. A number of them actually acted on that thought. Most never get past the daydream stage. Sometimes it's because they do not know how to go about it. Sometimes it is because there are numerous unknowns. Still other times it is because they think they cannot get it done.

O.K. now, wait up one minute. We poked around plenty of negatives in the beginning of this, all the why nots? Let's consider three reasons why you should not laugh when others break wind.

First off, in its favor, let me explain that breaking wind is NOT funny when you analyse it mechanically, but when it happens it is very difficult for most of us not to laugh out loud. Sure, I do know your objection that in that case most of us must be very childish and immature people. What you say holds true, I agree, but still is it wrong that plenty of adults never grew up in their largely involuntary and spontaneous opinion of the funniness of a fart?

Second, consider that a fart is only what you might call a "botty burp". Likewise, and a burp is not funny. Oh. No! Don't tell me! And also, a lot of people who are trying, in all seriousness, to save the planet from the effect of greenhouse gases, one of the biggest offenders of which is methane, could simultaneously be worried by the thought of all that methane in a ripe fart! So, laughing would just create greater concern in their minds.

Third and lastly, you will definitely get the attention of every person around you with a even modicom of hearing, if you do break wind in a public place. Which will probably mean that even those of us that can pretend it must have been that dog over there, with the greatest applomb, won't fool a single person present. And, in addition to that, you will be significantly embarrassed by the failings of your own bodily functions, which is made far worse when people smirk, giggle, or laugh!

Within all the above info lies a very good list of reasons in favor of not laughing when others break wind, and not eating baked beans yourself, lest you find yourself in the same predicament. What do you think?

Now, after all that, what do you say? Isn't that a strong case in favor? Maybe you actually should not laugh when others break wind!
