Whether you want to become a state police officer, county deputy and/or work as a federal agent there is one thing that you must do as a prospective law enforcement candidate before you are offered the job - you must pass the police fitness requirements. When I tested for the police department years ago, I had just completed my senior year as a collegiate athlete. Although I was in decent shape, I still found myself gashed on the timed 300 meter sprint test. That being said, the police fitness test is no joke. I've seen tough football players, and ex-basketball players bomb the test. Why? because some of the people arriving at the test date have trained completely wrong as they prepare for the fitness test. Some recruits train like a mad man in the gym, but fail to develop the right muscle groups that will enable them to be successful on the test. One of the biggest mistakes I notice right away is that many candidates train as though they are getting ready for a bodybuilding competition, and/or training as though they are preparing for the Boston Marathon. Both of which are totally wrong, and will have you gashed at some point during the test. I know this is true because as I mentioned earlier I was a collegiate athlete, but because of poor training, I did poorly on the ability test. The main objective as you prepare for the police officer fitness test is to work on building your strength and endurance through compound exercises (also known as multi-joint exercises). Any exercise routine that you do to fulfill the police fitness requirements must seek to develop the three major fitness categories:
If your workout program does not have the above 3 components involved as you prepare for the police officer fitness test, you'll have a hard time with the test. In Conclusion If you want to pass the Police Fitness Test, you must implement a police specific workout program that will seek to develop the top 3 fitness categories at the same time.
