This is Seth, my son.
This is a feel good story about a young mom and her eldest son. There is no moral to this story. There is no agenda. It was written just to be enjoyed by others, and remembered by all those involved. Happy reading.

"Don't make me regret this."  Mom said as the car pulled from the church parking lot with a little jerk, the young driver nervously clinging to the wheel .  As he eased onto the open road his mother calmly said "give it a little gas."  The hazard lights flashed in the summer heat as the two rolled down the road mom in the passenger seat for the first time.  Being a country boy, he had driven before, tractors, go carts, the car,  but it had always been in the safety of the horse field.  Today was going to be a day he remembered forever, his first time on the road.  The duo crept down the road meeting a fellow driver, he held the wheel straight, and the car never bobbling.  "You're doing good."  She reassured him.  Mom glimpsed up and noticed a car in the rear view mirror.  Seeing the boy getting nervous, Mom told him "Okay, just pull over and let that car pass."  The boy wiggled a tad as he tried to pull off the road.  With a slight jerk forward, of too much pressure being applied to the brake, the car stopped.  That was when Mom noticed him in the rear view mirror.  The County Sheriff...Where had he come from?  How long had he been following them?  How was she going to explain to him what was going on.  Mom bailed out of the car, and applied the best and scariest acting that she had ever done in her life.  "Hi, there's no problem, officer."  The deputy looked at this young mom and asked "Are you sure I saw the car pull off the road?  I didn't know if there was a problem, or if you were talking on your cellphone..."  Mom interrupted, "Oh, no, there is no problem," Flirting and smiling with every bit of feminine charm she had in her.  Thinking fast she said "OH, my cell was ringing, and I couldn't find it.  There is no problem."  Mom was standing in between the offices squad car and the back of her car. "Okay, if you are sure, be careful."  The officer said smiling at this young mom who was laying it on as thick as molasses in winter. "Thank you office bye."  She waved and walked back to the passenger side of the car and pretended to look for her cell phone, all the while telling the driver "Lean down! Lean down! Lean down!   The heavily tinted windows blocking most  of the visibility through the car, concealing the drivers identity.  As the officer's squad car crested the top of the hill and disappeared over the other side, Mom said "Switch seats, NOW!."  The young driver jumped from the seat, in his haste forgetting to put the car in park.  "Brake, Brake!"  Mom shouted.  "Augh!"  the boy slammed on the brake and shifted the car into park.  "Switch seats, you are not driving home."  The boy agreed adamantly.  "I can't believe he didn't say anything?"  the boy muttered.  "I know.  I have no idea how we just got away with that."  Mom said.  Mom and son looked at each other and laughed as the butterflies in their stomachs, turning to giggles.  "Did I make you regret it?" the son asked.  "Almost."  Mom said, "Next time lets stick to driving in the field."  "Agreed." said the boy, "No more road driving until I get my learners permit."  Mom nodded her head in agreeance,  "That will only be another five and a half years." the boy said.

I am lucky to have a very unique relationship with my children.  Being a very young mother (by choice) I think I have a distinct approach to parenting that older parents might not have.  I enjoy the company of our children, I can relate to them and enjoy playing with them.  I try my best to walk the line between when to be a tough Mom, and when to just be their buddy for a little while.  This makes for some very interesting days.  Such as the one in my story.  Which happened to my 10 year old son and myself June 15, 2010.  We learned our lesson together that day.
